Parents & Tots Parents & Tots usually meets on alternate Thursday mornings during term time from 09:15 to 11:15. The group is informally led in English by an experienced Early Learners teacher and welcomes children up to 3 years old, regardless of their English language ability. The sessions provide a happy, relaxed and supportive environment for both parents and children. Activities may include crafts, singing and story time, alongside plenty of opportunities for free and imaginative play with our wide range of toys, games and dressing-up clothes. Children remain the responsibility of their parent or caregiver at all times during the session, and adults are encouraged to participate in group activities and play. About Us The English Speaking Playgroup and School (E S P ) is an English language school in Bern, Switzerland, located close to the city centre. Founded in 1985, the E S P is a not-for-profit association (Verein) run by a dedicated committee of parents and teachers. We provide high-quality English classes for children, teenagers and adults in a happy, stimulating and supportive learning environment. Our goal is to help learners develop confidence and fluency in English through engaging and age-appropriate lessons. The E S P offers English courses for native speakers, bilingual children and learners with little or no previous knowledge of English. Our programmes include an English playgroup for young children, English classes for school-aged learners and English lessons for adults. We welcome learners from 3 years old to adulthood and also run a weekly Parents & Tots group for children under 3 and their caregivers. In addition, we offer private English tuition in Bern for children, teenagers and adults who would benefit from individual support or tailored lessons. For over 40 years, the E S P has helped families in Bern learn and maintain English in a friendly, international community. Classes We offer a Parents & Tots group and over 20 different classes for learners from 3 years old to adult. We welcome both native and good English speakers as well as those with little or no previous knowledge of English: Parents & Tots Playgroup Classes Reading and Writing Classes English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Classes Examination Classes Private Classes for Children and Adults As we offer so many different levels of classes we can ensure that each child is placed in both an age and ability-appropriate class. The E S P does not work with set curricula for most of the classes. This allows us to meet the needs of each individual learner whilst enabling them to reach a particular level of proficiency by the end of the school year. Playgroup Our English playgroup provides a happy and relaxed learning environment for children aged 3–6 years in Bern. Through a variety of engaging activities, including painting, crafts, singing, stories and games, children develop their English language skills while having fun. Each session also includes plenty of opportunities for free and imaginative play using our wide range of toys, games and dressing-up clothes. In the more advanced groups, children are introduced to early reading, writing and mathematical readiness skills through age-appropriate activities and play-based learning. We take special care to ensure that every child can participate according to their individual age, ability and stage of development.
